Covid travel rule-breakers could face 10-year jail term, says Hancock

Health secretary sets out new measures as Scottish government announces even stricter plans

Passengers who conceal travel to the UK from coronavirus hotspots face a 10-year jail sentence, Matt Hancock announced today as the Scottish government went further by unveiling plans for all visitors from abroad to enter quarantine hotels.

The health secretary said people who arrived in England from 33 high-risk countries would have to pay up to £1,750 to quarantine in government-designated hotels for 10 days. He also confirmed a new “enhanced testing” regime for all international travellers, with two tests required during the quarantine process from next Monday.
