Victoria AFL clubs in lockdown following MCG Covid alert as Melbourne cluster grows
This week’s games expected to go ahead with fans in stands amid growing cluster and positive case attending match on Sunday
Victoria’s AFL clubs have been ordered into lockdown by the league as it scrambles to ensure the season is not derailed by the latest Covid-19 outbreak in Melbourne. The move comes as three clubs with interstate games this week made plans to leave the city in case any further restrictions were imposed in response to the developing situation.
Essendon, Hawthorn and Carlton are preparing to leave Melbourne early for matches this weekend and plan to return to Victoria following their respective round 11 games. The nine Melbourne-based clubs, as well as Geelong, will face new restrictions for at least the next seven days with players and staffers recommended to only leave for playing, training and essentials.
