Finland
COVID-19
A state of emergency in Finland remains in effect.
On 4 May the Finnish Government announced that some COVID-19 restrictions will be relaxed in a phased manner. For detailed information visit the Finnish Government website.
You’re not allowed to enter the country unless you’re a permanent resident of Finland. If you arrive displaying COVID-19 symptoms, you’ll be placed in designated quarantine accommodation for 14 days.
If you’re in Finland and wish to return to Australia, we recommend you do so without delay. Check with your airline, as key transit hubs between Finland and Australia have closed or are becoming severely restricted. You may find information on flight availability at the Helsinki Airport website, but scheduled flights may be cancelled.
If you’re returning to Australia from a third country, you can transit through Helsinki Airport, though you won’t be able to leave the transit area at the airport. However, Helsinki Airport staff do have the authority to issue exemptions, on a case-by-case basis. For example, if you are elderly or travelling with young children, you may request access to airport hotels on arrival. There are no guarantees.
The government has lifted movement restrictions between Uusimaa district (including Helsinki) and the rest of Finland. Entering and leaving the district for recreational travel is banned. The government urges all travellers to continue to avoid unnecessary travel.
Land and sea passenger travel between Sweden and Finland has been suspended, including work related travel. All travel to the EU and Schengen Area (which includes Finland) is currently restricted for non-EU nationals.
It is possible further restrictions will be introduced in Finland. Monitor the media for information on latest developments and follow the advice of local authorities.
If you can’t or don’t want to leave, make arrangements for an extended stay and stay in touch with friends and family so they know you’re safe and well.
