Self-employed income relief scheme: NTUC closes online system after surge in applications

Applications for the Self-Employed Person Income Relief Scheme (SIRS), which opened on April 27, have closed temporarily due to overwhelming response that resulted in "major connectivity problems". The scheme is part of enhancements made to the Solidarity Budget to benefit some 100,000 self-employed persons with cash payouts. In a Facebook post, Labour Chief Ng Chee Meng said NTUC, which is administering the process, is aware that many users are unable to complete their applications due to technical difficulties. He assured the self-employed persons that the number of tranches is not impacted by when the application is submitted.
