Those spreading fake news amid COVID-19 pandemic will be charged: Shanmugam

The authorities in Singapore will not hesitate to take action against those who take advantage of the COVID-19 situation to spread fake news. Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam said there have been ploys by individuals to create panic and incite violence, especially among the foreign workers community. Mr Shanmugam cited a recent example of a video that claimed a Bangladeshi in Singapore had killed himself because he had no money and work. The police have clarified that the incident did not happen in Singapore.
