COVID-19: Employers should be sympathetic to older workers still working in essential services
What is the Singapore Manpower Ministry's advice on older workers who are concerned about having to head out to work? "Our advisory to the employers is to be sympathetic to the concerns of the senior workers; if it is at all possible, to relieve the individual from coming to work," Manpower Minister Josephine Teo said in a multi-ministry task force news conference on Tuesday (Apr 14). "The alternative is that if the person really has to come to work, then, within the work environment, can the person be redeployed to a different role where the interactions with the coworkers is kept to a minimum?" she said.
